Following the failure of water samples of Housefed complex in the self-testing kits,a team of health department came to take water samples on Monday. They took five samples. As per the information available,the team told that water was unfit for drinking,but the exact details will come in the microbiology test.

Labour union demands release of leader
A rally was organised by the Punjab Nirman Mazdoor Union at the Mini-Secretariat on Monday,to protest against the arrest of their leader,Hari Singh Sahni. Paramjit Singh,one of the leaders,said,“Sahni was trapped in a wrong case. First he was declared a proclaimed offender and later arrested. He has been sent to jail. We are demanding his release.” Police,however,said Sahni was booked in different cases for creating public nuisance by organising dharnas for “wrong” reasons. They maintained aq few other charges were also on him.

Kohinoor factory gutted,2 injured
A major fire broke out at Kohinoor factory,located at Focal Point,on Monday. Due to lack of any fire fighting arrangements,it spread fast in the unit and two workers — Jang Bahadur and Kisan kumar — were injured. Bahadur sustained 75 per cent burn injuries and was stated to be critical. Kisan sustained 30 per cent injuries. Both were sent to the Oswal Cancer Hospital,but later,Jang Bahadur was shifted to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. As per the information from the fire brigade team,chemicals used in tyre industry were stored inside the factory and they helped fire spread fast. More than 20 workers were working inside the unit at the time of incident. The owner will bear the expenses of the injurede workers’ treatment. The fire also spread to the neighbouring factory,Bhagwati Packers,and their raw material and machines were damaged. It took fire team two hours to douse the flames.

Society observes Tara Singh’s birthday
The Master Tara Singh Memorial Society observed his birthday at gurdwara Kalgidhar on Sunday. It was the 34th year of celebration by the society. SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar,who missed the state-level function organised by the Punjab government,was present here and he said the SGPC will support setting up of a museum in the name of Master Tara Singh. Cabinet Minister Hira Singh Gabria and grand daughter of Singh,Kiranjot Kaur also spoke on the occasion. Kaur appreciated the efforts of the society.

Merit list for BCom admissions delayed
The merit list of centralised BCom admissions could not be put up in Government College for Boys till the time of filing this report. Chief co-ordinator of admissions,Dr Karamjit Singh,said,“Although we were supposed to display the list today morning,of the total 9,500 forms,nearly 250 had some errors. So now we are contacting students personally to rectify the mistakes. The list will be put on display by night and two days will be given to students to file objections.”
