Four snatchers held
Four snatchers have been caught with five gold chains on Tuesday. SP Paramjit Singh Pannu (north) said the team headed by Salem Tabri SHO Nirmal Singh has They have been identified as Gurpreet Singh,Manoj Sharma,Sunny and Chand Prakash. All four snatchers have confessed their crime,said the police.
Gang of car robbers busted,2 held
The Haibowal police claimed to have busted a gang of car thieves with the arrest of two persons on Tuesday who allegedly took cars on rent,got fake documents prepared and then mortgaged them. Superintendent of Police Narinder Pal Singh said,We received a complaint against Pawandeep alias Raja after one Suresh Kumar,a resident of Durgapuri,said he had taken his car on rent but failed to return it. Later,we learnt that he used to prepare fake documents of the car and sold it to one Kulwant Singh in order to make a quick buck. While Pawandeep is absconding,the police have caught Bhupinder Singh and Vikas Goyal and three cars have also been recovered from their garage.
Demolition drive held in city
A demolition drive was carried out by the municipal corporation on Tuesday and a religious structure on the cemetery road was razed. Nearly five feet of the road was illegally occupied. Apart from this,a shop near Lakkar Bridge was also sealed. In Haibowal,a shop was pulled down after building bylaws violations were found.
Anti-ragging committees and squads made mandatory in colleges
Following the orders of the Supreme Court,the Punjab government has made it mandatory for all colleges,universities and other educational institutes to constitute anti-ragging committees and anti-ragging squads. Deputy Commissioner (General) J K Jain issued this order on Tuesday and asked heads of all institutes to take police help,if required. ADCP (Headquarters) R K Bakshi said the police control room can be contacted on 9815800251 in this regard.
