Batalas State Bank of Patiala robbery accused was nabbed at GT road Ladowal here by the Ludhiana police today.
SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill said that a naka had been set up where the accused,who was identified as Hem Raj,was coming from Jalandhar side on a motorcycle with his wife Nidhi as a pillion rider.
Nidhi was carrying a big bag which aroused suspicion,the SSP said. He said that when the couple were stopped and the bag was opened,it was found to be containing the looted amount of over Rs 22 lakh.
Gill said that during preliminary investigations,Hem Raj,who was an employee of State Electricity Board (PSEB),told the police that he had not so far spent even a single paisa since he looted the bank yesterday. He said that the couple had been arrested and were being handed over to the Batala police for further action.
The accused was going to his in-laws house at Ludhiana with the booty. The amount was looted from State Bank of Indias Shastri Nagar branch at Batala yesterday.
