Auto parts manufacturers pooh-pooh Chinese challenge

A four-day visit of 40-member delegation of Auto Parts Manufacturers Association(India) made the members realise that they could easily compete with China and there was no need to fear from them.

A four-day visit of 40-member delegation of Auto Parts Manufacturers Association(India) made the members realise that they could easily compete with China and there was no need to fear from them. In China,the cost of living was increasing every day,but the salaries were not increasing. However in India,labour is very cheap, said Ranjodh Singh,general secretary of the association,who was a member of the delegation.

Gurpargat Singh Kahlon,president of the association,added,After visiting China,we have realised that auto parts industry in Punjab is in a better position to compete with China. But we need to increase our productivity by improving our work culture .

Ranjodh Singh has also invited a Chinese company to set up a truck manufacturing unit in Punjab which,he said,would be more viable here than in China.

The industrialists hence are planning to implement the same in their factories. During the visit,a delegation of association met the representatives of a biggest Chinese association namely China National Automotive Industry International Corporation (CNAICO)

Singh further said that at present 1.3 crore vehicles were being manufactured in China and the same are being exported to various countries whereas here in India we are currently manufacturing just over 20 lakh vehicles per annum. Hence productivity needs to be increased for which industry needs more advancement.

The 40-member group visited International trade fair Automechanika – 2009 held in Shanghai,China,from 9th to 14th December

Ranjodh Singh further said that there was no difference in the cost of raw material in India and China and if any big unit was set up in Punjab,the auto parts manufacturing industry in Punjab could also progress tremendously.

The Chinese delegation also accepted our invitation to visit unjab in near future, added Ranjodh

He further said that in Punjab,there was a big cluster for auto parts and if power and other infrastructure was provided by the state,then there was a big potential for high investment in the state and any big investment can easily change the industrial environment of the state.
