Delegation asks Sekhwan to exempt pvt schools from RTE
Ludhiana: A team from the Punjab School Education Board and affiliated schools met Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan to discuss issues like RTE Act,semester system examination and creation of exam centres for open school students. During the meeting,the delegation told the minister that though the state government had imposed the RTE Act on affiliated schools,these schools do not receive grant or aid from the government and function independently. In case a state government wants to impose the RTE Act,it should to pay for 25 per cent of the students who will get free admission in affiliated schools. After the school receives the amount,it will reimburse the students.
Endo-vascular workshop at CMCH
Ludhiana: The Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) has held a workshop on endo-vascular diseases. Dr Harinder Singh Bedi,head of cardio-vascular and thoracic surgery department at CMCH,said: Chronic venous disease is quite common in India as most of the people work while standing,leading to pressure on the veins that dilate. It is estimated that over a lakh die due to venous disease each year equivalent of the disappearance of a city the size of Cambridge in Massachusetts. The conventional therapy of varicose veins is a major operation called stripping. It entails a long cut,pain,admission and a slow recovery. A new technique called Endovenous Thermal Ablation has been introduced and perfected at CMCH. The technique was discussed at the workshop.
BCM students win
Ludhiana: The mega final of JCI Eloquent Minds 2010 was held at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School at Shastri Nagar. Students from BCM Senior Secondary School in Sector 32A won in English and Hindi/Punjabi categories. There were 20 participants in all.
