Ludhiana ranked ‘15th largest eCommerce Hub’ in eBay census
Ludhiana has been ranked 15th largest ‘eCommerce Hub’ in the country in the third edition of eBay India Census 2010 (www.eBay.in). Ambareesh Murty,country manager,eBay India,unveiled the eBay Census Guide,which documents the key findings and trends in online buying and selling across India in the top 20 e-commerce hubs,28 states and seven union territories. According to the census report,Ludhiana’s top five purchases are Indian stamps,pen drives,mobile handsets,diamond rings and headphones,while top five sold products include pen drives,micro SD cards,cell phone pouches,mobile accessories and headphones. Ludhiana’s top five exported products include cell phone accessories,FM transmitters,smart phones,African coins and British India stamps,while the top five imports include books,tattoo supplies,scarves,Indian currency notes and car accessories.

Award for PAU researcher
Dr Preetinder Kaur,research engineer,Department of Processing and Food Engineering,PAU,bagged the ‘Innovative Student Projects Award 2010’ at the Annual Convention of Indian National Academy of Engineering held at Naval Science and Technology Laboratory,Vishakhapatnam. Department head Dr Jarnail Singh said Kaur was awarded for her PhD research paper on “Mathematical modeling of macro-perforated modified atmosphere packaging for fresh cut vegetables”. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a certificate.

Art exhibition from tomorrow
The Punjab Lalit Kala Academy will organise the Annual Art Exhibition-2010,which will be dedicated to renowned artist Sobha Singh to mark his 110th birth anniversary. Academy president Ranjodh Singh said the exhibition would be held from December 23 to 25 at Sutlej Club here. Jails,Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Hira Singh Gabria will inaugurate it,while Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari will be the guest of honour.

Book on bonsai released
Punjab Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Kang released a book ‘Bonsai-Ik Kala’,authored by Col Avtar Singh Brar of New Delhi,on Tuesday. The 93-page book in Punjabi highlights various operations for preparing bonsai,providing practical hints about the steps required for preparation and maintenance of bonsai. Brar said he had earlier published a book on bonsai in English in 2006.

Students educated at science camp
On the second day of science camp INSPIRE,which is currently under way at PAU,eminent scientists educated students about various aspects of science and technology. The programme saw the participation of senior secondary students from various schools. To motivate students to opt science as profession,they will be taken to the Pushpa Gujral Science City,Kapurthala.
