The Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation System, implemented by the Central Board of Secondary Education,New Delhi, recently,is expected to make the students lives easier. Under the scheme, each student will be judged on parameters, including his performance in academics and co-curricular activities.
With the introduction of the Aptitude Test for students of Class IX and X,many teachers and principals feel that students will be able to take an informed decision while choosing a particular stream. The test has its critics too who believe the test can undermine the students potential if their mind is not clear at the time of taking it.
Paramjit Kaur, principal of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School,Shastri Nagar, said,The test will provide the students a nudge in the right direction but it is certainly not binding. Anyone can opt for any stream later even if one does not qualify in the test.
R S Patial, principal of DAV Public School, said,The test is a good idea only if the students have a clear picture as to what they want to be in the future. The child will be even more confused,if he or she takes the test with an unclear mind.
Students seemed optimistic about the test. The test will be good for us as it will help us ascertain our areas of excellence. But it all depends on the school authorities, who usually make their own rules regarding giving the choice of medical,non-medical and commerce streams to students according to marks. If a student does not qualify the aptitude test for commerce but wants to study the subject,he or she is completely at the mercy of the school, said a student.
Amakiran Kaur,a teacher at Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School,BRS Nagar, said: I feel the test is a perfect opportunity for students. But everything has its pros and cons and the real picture will be clear only after a year of its implementation.
