After daylight robbery, slanging match between victim and cops

A lady professor was robbed and ‘assaulted’ in broad daylight in one of the busiest areas of the city on Sunday.

A lady professor was robbed and ‘assaulted’ in broad daylight in one of the busiest areas of the city on Sunday. The Ludhiana Police, however, while admitting that Tripta – a professor from Malwa Central College of Education – was robbed, has dismissed the victim’s claims that she was also thrashed.

According to the professor, she had gone to meet her parents in BRS Nagar and was on an Activa with her sister-in-law and a 4-year-old child when two men on a motorcycle hit her on her chest before snatching her purse and gold ornaments.

“They thrashed me on my chest and face and my arm too has been fractured and after thrashing I just lost my balance and fell on road and got bruises. Police came after more than 25 minutes and even people nearby did not help,” Tripta told Ludhiana Newsline.

Tripta got her X-rays done from Deep Hospital and got a plaster on her arm and has been advised three months of complete bed rest due to fracture and bruises.

Police,on the other hand, are claiming that the ‘lady was only looted’ and not thrashed. SHO Sarabha Nagar police station IPS Deepak Hilori says that ‘it was slipping of her scooter due to which she fell down’ and ‘miscreants only snatched her valuables and went off. “ The lady’s diamond earrings, gold chain and purse were snatched and both miscreants went off. I don’t think she was thrashed. She got injuries because she fell off her scooter after she lost balance,” Hilori told Ludhiana Newsline.

Tripta on other hand claimed that ‘police is lying despite statements given to police by her.’ Asked why police took 25 minutes to reach Durga Mata Mandir road, near Sarabha Nagar police station, the SHO said: “Police too can take time as its not possible to be near the spot of incident always. There are other works to do.” So far Ludhiana Police has registered FIR only under section 382 of Iindian Penal Code.
