The inquiry report for the Rs 42 lakh Shagun scheme scam was presented today in the grievances redressal committee meeting, one and a half year after the scam first surfaced.

As per the inquiry report, out of a total of 80 cases,63 were found to be correct while for 13,the addresses of the persons to whom these cheques were given were not correct. Four persons whose names are in the list said that they never got any cheques. Most of the old complaints resurfaced in this meeting and members asked for reasons for the slow process of taking action and whether such meetings have any significance.

MLA Darshan Shivalik said that welfare department staff had not disbursed cheques to the real beneficiaries in 2009 under the Shagun scheme and inquiry was on for more than one and a half year. As per rules,Rs 15,000 has to be given to each SC family on the marriage of their daughters. DC Rahul Tiwari ordered checking of details from the banks to find out whether the cheques have been encashed in the cases of four persons who have not received them.

Shivalik said,“Even for the remaining 63 cases,no details of date of cheque have been given and such a long inquiry time is a question mark on the functioning of the department.”
