Youth,niece commit suicide,families throw bodies into river

Sitapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Piyush Mordia told The Indian Express that Beenu alias Raju (22) and his niece Radha (20) of Madania village hanged themselves with scarves from a tree outside the village last night.

The family members of both the deceased came to know about the incident around 3 am today after they found both of them missing from their houses,Mordia said.

The relatives of the girl and the youth did not inform the police and threw the bodies into the river. The local police were informed by an anonymous caller. The police fished the bodies with the help of divers this noon.

The SP also said the investigation into the matter found that Beenu and Radha had an affair for the last two years. Radha’s father Satish Singh who is a pradhan (village head) had come to know about their relation and had forced the youth to leave the village about six months ago.

Beenu got employed in Punjab and had returned to his native place about four days ago.

Mordia added that the youth and the girl left their houses sometime last night and hanged themselves.

They are waiting for the postmortem report to confirm that the youth and the girl had hanged themselves,as the police had recovered the bodies from the river and were told about the suicide by the family members. They will decide over initiating a legal action on the basis of the postmortem report,the SP confirmed.
