Ten-year-old Sushma Verma was one of the candidates appearing for the CPMT examinations on Friday. A student of St Meeras Inter College in Lucknow, she had cleared her high school examinations at the age of 7,scoring around 59 per cent. This year, she had appeared for the Intermediate examinations.
I always wanted to be a doctor so that I can provide free treatment to the poor. While waiting for my Intermediate results,I decided to take up coaching for CPMT, she said. Born in February 2000,Sushma had secured direct admission to Class IX when she was around 5 years old. Before this she had studied at home.
While her father Tej Bahadur is a daily wage labourer and has studied till Class VIII,her mother Chaya,a homemaker,is illiterate. Sushmas brother Shailendra (16) had passed his Intermediate exams when he was 11 and cleared his BCA from the Lucknow University at the age of 14. Shailendra used to teach me when I was at home. It was due to him that I could study further, said Sushma. Asked about the feat,Kanpurs Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University Registrar Mahesh Chandra said: I am not aware of the case but will look into the matter.
