Work on Formula One track put in top gear

Ongoing agitation by farmers in Bhatta-Parsaul village of Greater Noida has put up a fresh challenge before the Jaypee Group, which is working day and night to ensure completion of Formula One race track in Greater Noida within the next two months before final inspection by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile experts in July-end.

Ongoing agitation by farmers in Bhatta-Parsaul village of Greater Noida has put up a fresh challenge before the Jaypee Group, which is working day and night to ensure completion of Formula One race track in Greater Noida within the next two months before final inspection by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) experts in July-end.

Paris-based FIA is the governing body for holding Formula One championships across the world.

The 5.14-km-long track along Yamuna Expressway, with a sitting capacity for about 1.2 lakh persons,is set to host first Indian Grand Prix in October 2011.

The track falls in Dhankaur area of Greater Noida, which is about 9 km from the Bhatta-Parsaul village. Thus, while the work on Yamuna Expressway has slowed down after the agitation, authorities have shifted their focus on the construction of the track and are working day and night with a large labour force to ensure there are no hindrances in its completion.

Also, the state government has beefed up security for the under-construction race track after Saturday’s agitation at Bhatta-Parsaul and in the wake of warning by Manvir Singh Teotia that farmers would march towards the under-construction track to mark their protest against low compensation rate provided to them at various locations under Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.

Apart from the police, even private security guards have been hired by the group. Sources in the company say around 6,000 workers and over 250 engineers are working round-the-clock to ensure early completion of the Rs 1700-crore project.

“About 80 per cent of the black asphalt layer has been laid on 5.14-km-long track. We are targeting to complete the track before July-end,” said a senior official of the group.
