A 25-year-old woman was found murdered in the toilet of a sleeper coach in Amritsar-bound Dibrugarh-Amritsar Express. The body was brought out at Ghazipur railway station Wednesday evening.
A case of murder has been registered. The police said the womans husband,a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan,was the prime suspect.
The government railway police (GRP) reportedly received information about the body around 8 p.m. Wednesday. The train arrived around 8.30 p.m. after which we took out the body from the toilet of S-1 coach. The womans neck was slit with a sharp weapon. The family members of the deceased have been contacted, said Station Officer (GRP) Ghazipur,Dinesh Chandra Chowdhary.
The victim was identified as Kulbeer Kaur,wife of Amritpal Singh,of Amritsar.
A piece of paper with the phone number of the victims father was recovered from her person. When contacted,her family members said the woman and her husband had boarded the Dibrugarh-Amritsar Express in Assam and were on their way to Amritsar. The incident occurred just after the train crossed Barauni in Bihar, said Superintendent of Police (GRP),Gorakhpur,V K Singh.
Preliminary investigations revealed the couple had lunch in Barauni around 1 p.m. Both of them then went to the washroom. However,they did not return to their seats. SLater,the passengers spotted the body, said Singh.
The victims brother told the police that he got a call from Amritpal,saying he had missed the train at a station and they should receive his wife at the destination. Prima facie it appears to be a pre-planned act, said Singh.
