West Bengal lifted the winner’s trophy in the 5th national cricket tournament for the differently abled which came to a close at KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium,Lucknow on Sunday.

West Bengal lifted the winner’s trophy in the 5th national cricket tournament for the differently abled which came to a close at KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium,Lucknow on Sunday.

The finals were held were organised on a ‘super league’ basis in which three teams played one match against each other. In the first match,West Bengal beat Maharashtra by 23 runs,in the second match Maharashtra beat ‘Apang Pariwar’ Saurashtra by eight wickets. In the third and last match,West Bengal beat ‘Apang Pariwar’ Saurashtra by four wickets to bag maximum points and occupy the top spot.

The tournament was sponsored by NKG Infrastructure. While winners West Bengal were awarded a prize money of Rs 1lakh,runners-up Maharashtra bagged a prize money of Rs 50,000. Saurashtra team which occupied the third spot became richer by Rs 30,000. Hitesh (Saurashtra),U Mazumdar (West Bengal),Abdul Khalaq (West Bengal) and Rajendra Chauhan (Baroda) bagged a sum of Rs 10,000 each for being adjudged ‘Best Batsman’,‘Best Bowler’,‘Best Allrounder’ and ‘Best Fielder’,respectively.

AW Siddiqui,general secretary Indian Cricket Federation for Disabled (ICFD) informed that the Baroda unit of he ICFD came up with a proposal to organise a tournament for the differently abled at Baroda in which the top 12 teams of this tournament will be given entry. “We are considering their request and we have plans to select the best talent from that tournament and organise a friendly match between differently abled players and some Team India players later in the year,” he added.

(2nd match):- ‘Apang Pariwar’,Saurashtra: 139 for six in 15 overs ( Hitesh C 40,Mayur 31,Sunil Yadav 28 not out; Sachin Parkhe 2 for 16,Sarang Chaple 1 for 25); Maharashtra: 142 for two in 11.3 overs ( Shahid Ahmed 80,Gurudas Raut 53 not out; Vijay Vaja 1 for 19,Mukesh Makwana 1 for 32);

(3rdmatch): ‘Apang Pariwar’,Saurashtra: 121 for eight in 15 overs ( Vijay Vaja 59,Mayur 16,Chetan 14; Jayant Sadhuker 2 for 15,Abdul Khalaq 2 for 27,Utpal Mazumdar 2 for 32; West Bengal: 122 for six in 13.4 overs ( Utpal Mazumdar 53 not out,Jitendra Kumar 20 not out; Hitesh 3 for 15,Mukesh 2 for 37).

GUJRAL Academy defeated SCC XI by three wickets in a friendly match organised in Lucknow on Sunday.

Brief Scores: SCC: 189 all out in 29.5 overs ( Avnish 32,M Nadeem 31,Mahipal Singh 22; Arvind Verma 3 for 25,Sandeep Kumar 2 for 24); Gujral Academy: 193 for seven in 28.5 overs ( Pramod Kumar 68,Shubam Rahi 41,Arvind Verma 22; Mahipal Singh 2 for 25,Ajay Rawat 2 for 40).
