Besides Fahim, Irfan’s gunner Tahir and three local SP youth leaders — Saurabh, Amit and Rahul — were taken to a private hospital in Moradabad where their condition is reported to be critical.
“Three persons are died and five others, including the MLA’s son, have been admitted to Cosmos Hospital in Moradabad. It is multi-speciality hospital and as such there is no plan to shift them,” Moradabad District Magistrate Zuhair Bin Sagheer said.
The incident occurred on Kachla road near Jyorapar Wala village in Badaun’s Mujariya area on Thursday morning. The driver reportedly lost control over the speeding SUV as one of its tyres burst. The vehicle first hit a tree, then fell into a roadside ditch. Locals working in nearby fields helped the injured, who were rushed to the Badaun District Hospital initially.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav have expressed grief over the deaths. Akhilesh, in his condolence message, described Irfan as a simple and popular leader, who was devoted to the party.
Irfan, a first-time MLA, was also member of the probe panel set up by the state Assembly that investigated the recent sting operation related to Muzaffarnagar riots. An advocate by profession, he had also written religious books. For the last two decades, Irfan was the president of Turq Qabail Front — an organisation of his community. He was regarded close to Minority Welfare Minister Azam Khan.
