Heeding the request made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the Election Commission on Thursday extended the deadline for filling up SIR enumeration forms by another 15 days, till December 26 – the longest among the six states where the deadline has been extended.

The month-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which began on November 4, was earlier extended from December 4 to December 11.

On Wednesday, CEO Navdeep Rinwa sought a two-week extension, citing the time required by District Election Officers (DEOs) to re-verify deceased, shifted, or absentee voters.

As per the revised schedule, the last day for filling up the SIR enumeration period has been extended to December 26, 2025. The date for publication of the draft electoral rolls will now be December 31.

The period for receiving claims and objections has been set from December 31 to January 30.

From December 31 to February 21, decisions on enumeration forms and the disposal of claims and objections will be carried out during the notice phase. The final publication of the electoral roll will now be done on February 28.

Rinwa on Thursday said that so far, 99.24 per cent enumeration forms have been digitised, out of which 80.39 per cent have been received back with the signatures of the voters.

The remaining 18.85 per cent, numbering 2.91 crore, are yet to be collected.

“Out of which, the highest 8.22 per cent or about 1.27 crore are of such voters, who have permanently shifted from their place of residence. Another 2.98 per cent (about 45.95 lakh) voters have died, 1.5 per cent (about 23.69 lakh) are already voters in other places. And 0.62 per cent (9.58 lakh) are those who have received the counting forms but have not yet returned them, and 5.49 per cent (84.73 lakh) voters are absent,” the CEO said.

It may be mentioned that earlier the deadline was extended by one week following reports of BLO dying by suicide, allegedly due to SIR work pressure.
