In a first, the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday unveiled a logo for the annual Magh Mela in Prayagraj, which begins next month.

The unveiling of a special logo for the 45-day event, when people from across the country and the world congregate for a holy bath in the Sangam – the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers – by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath comes in the backdrop of his government giving a facelift to the city as part of a push for religious tourism.

“The logo reflects the spiritual significance of chanting, penance, and Kalpavas at the Sangam during the month of Magh,” the government said in a statement.

The logo, designed by consultants Ajay Saxena and Pragya Ajay for the Mela Authority, features the seven energy chakras based on the constellation positions of the mela period and mirrors the astrological positions of the Sun and Moon during the Hindu calendar month of Magh.

“The sacred Akshaya Vat symbolises eternal merit, the cosmic journey of Surya Dev and Chandra Dev with the 27 constellations. It also features the Lete Huye Hanuman Mandir, the Sanatan flag, which represents the expansion of Sanatan Dharma, and elements of environmental harmony, including the presence of Siberian birds at the Sangam,” an official said.

The inscription “Maghe nimajjanam yatra papam pariharet tatah” highlights the belief that bathing in the month of Magh absolves one of all sins, the official added.
