UP: BJP MP, aides booked for ‘abusing, attacking’ police team at outpost

AN FIR was registered against BJP MP from Kannauj, Subrat Pathak, and others for allegedly assaulting and verbally abusing a police team that helped their Unnao counterparts in arresting four Kannauj residents in connection with a kidnapping case on Friday night, officers said on Saturday.
Pathak and the other persons also allegedly tore the uniform of policemen, sources said.
The matter was resolved after additional police force reached the spot.
Pathak could not be contacted for comment on Saturday.

According to the police, seven policemen, including three police sub-inspectors, suffered minor injuries in the incident. Among those injured are the in-charge of Mandi Samiti and Saraimeera police outposts – sub-inspectors Hakim Singh and Tarun Singh, said an officer.
Later on Friday, on the basis of Hakim Singh’s complaint, an FIR was registered against 10 persons, including Pathak, and over 40 unidentified persons at the Kotwali police station in Kannauj.
The case was filed under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (Assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and 225 (Resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person).
The police have also invoked the Criminal Law Amendment Act against the accused.
No arrests have been made yet. Additional Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, said further action would be taken “on merit.”
In his complaint, Hakim Singh said that on Friday evening, he was asked to assist a team of the Unnao police which had arrived to arrest the accused in a kidnapping case.
Singh, along with a constable went to the spot and met the Unnao police team. In the meantime, sub-inspector Tarun Singh, along with another constable, also arrived there.
The Unnao police caught four persons and brought them to the Mandi Samti police outpost for questioning.
The complainant alleged that in the meantime, one Avneesh (accused) arrived at the police outpost and questioned the police personnel over whose directions they had brought those persons there. He also demanded that they be immediately released, the complainant claimed.
