UP: Air Force civil engineer shot dead at Prayagraj home

It is suspected that the assailant fired at him from outside. The body was found lying on the floor in the house. The victim had a bullet injury on the chest and the post-mortem report is awaited, police said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Prayagraj, Ajendra Yadav said efforts are being made to piece together further details. Police are examining CCTV footage from the campus to gather evidence.

According to the police, the Pooramufti police station was alerted by the airport station about the crime. It is suspected that the assailant entered the campus by scaling a boundary wall.

ACP Yadav said the victim’s family members, including his wife and two children, were present in the house when the incident occurred. Police are recording their statements, he said. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, Dr Ajay Pal Sharma, said that as the crime took place on the Air Force campus, security measures and case evidence are being reviewed, and the investigation is underway from “all angles.”

In a post on X in Hindi later in the day, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted the BJP government in the state over the crime.

He said the murder underscores the “alarming breakdown of law and order in Uttar Pradesh”. Those who once claimed that criminals are fleeing the state now appear to have driven out law and order instead, the SP chief wrote.
