Unveiled,Maya’s creations far from complete

Seven of the 15 memorial projects,Chief Minister Mayawati hastily dedicated to public on Thursday evening,are still incomplete.

Seven of the 15 memorial projects,Chief Minister Mayawati hastily dedicated to public on Thursday evening,are still incomplete. On Friday,work was going on at most of these projects. In case of two of these,only the foundation has been constructed.

When asked about why the incomplete projects were inaugurated,UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (UPRNN) Managing Director CP Singh and Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) Joint Director SB Mishra refused to comment.

While LDA is the nodal agency for these projects,UPRNN is executing the projects.

The incomplete projects are:

Bhimrao Ambedkar Drishya Sthal
Construction was started by UPRNN at the Ambedkar Memorial complex in Gomti Nagar nearly a month ago. It will be a 28-metre high,pink stone pyramid,resting on 24 columns. No one at the site knows what the pyramid,which will cost Rs 22 crore, will contain. On Friday,erection of columns and construction of the foundation was underway. An engineer at the site said it will take at least two months for the project to be completed. It is coming up on part of the land that was added to the complex after demolishing the Bhimrao Ambedkar Stadium last year.

Samajik Parivartan Sangrahalay
Sources in UPRNN said giant stupas are being constructed at a cost of Rs 500 crore at the Ambedkar Memorial. Its land was also taken over after demolishing the stadium. It will have 16 statues of Dalit icons,including Mayawati. Stone work on the dome is still on and contractors say it will take one month to be completed.

Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Partibimb Sthal
This is another pink stone structure constructed inside the Ambedkar Memorial complex,next to the Drishya Sthal on the land that was taken over after demolishing the stadium. The foundation of Pratibimb Sthal has been built. Details of its design and cost could not be known. When the dedication ceremony was originally scheduled for July 3,it was planned to build a temporary structure at Rs 1 crore,but the work came to halt on Thursday.

Samajik Parivartan Gallery
The Rs 80 crore project is being constructed inside the Ambedkar Memorial. It has six life-size statues of Dalit icons and Mayawati. Two entrance gates of the gallery are under construction while the fixing of stones on the backdrop of the statues is yet to begin.

Ambedkar Memorial gate
The 63-foot entrance gate is being constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore on Gandhi Setu,after demolishing an existing gate that was built only a few years ago. The gate is surrounded by scaffoldings and stone work on the dome and walls is going on. Two small parks planned on the sides of gate are yet to be developed and four statues of elephants are also to be installed.

Kanshiram Memorial
It is being constructed on a 42-acre area at a cost of Rs 370 crore on the VIP Road. It has the largest dome in the country,which is being covered with stone on the outside and will have bronze plates inside. Granite slabs are being fixed on the floor at the memorial’s entrance. Landscaping of the area is also on. Contractors say the remaining work will take another month.

It is also on the VIP road,spread over a 6,000 sq m area and comprises libraries,cottages and a park. Even after the inauguration,entry was restricted for public on Friday. Construction of floors and fixing of stones on the ceiling was in progress.
