Alarmed over rising cases where unclaimed bodies have been wrongly identified,the Uttar Pradesh Police have decided to undertake DNA profiling of the victims.
We have decided to undertake DNA profiling in suspected cases of crime where unclaimed bodies are recovered. This is to check cases of wrong identification, said ADG (Law & Order) Brij Lal on Thursday. Directives have been issued to the district police chiefs in this regard.
The decision came in the wake of recent incidents,where people were framed in false cases after bodies were identified wrongly.
On Thursday,a girl,supposedly killed last month,was traced alive along with his friend from Gautam Buddha Nagar. On April 9,Rajni was taken away by Manveer and Dinesh from Bagpath districts Kasna area. A case was registered by Gautam Buddha Nagar police, said police.
While Dinesh was arrested on April 23,the body of a girl was recovered from a pit in Meerut districts Kudhi village the next day. According to the police,even Rajnis family identified the body at the mortuary. Further investigations,however,showed that the body was actually of another girl,Manju Rani,who was missing from Sikri village in Ghaziabad since April 13.
Earlier this month,in Muzaffarnagar,a youth reportedly murdered in a suspected case of honour killing,landed at the police station with his friend. Ajit Saini,a student,and his girlfriend Anshu,who was missing,surfaced at the police station on May 9. The police had arrested the girls brother for killing the youth.
On May 8,a body with slit throat was found in the New Mandi area and was identified as that of Saini by his family. On the basis of a complaint filed by the boys family,the girls father,Narendra Tomar and her brother Anuj were arrested. During interrogation,Anuj had even confessed to have killed Ajit for tarnishing his familys image.
