Recalling his fathers remarks that only 15 paise from every rupee spent by the government actually reached the poor,Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that Aadhaar, the Unique Identification number project, will ensure that all 100 paise reach the beneficiary.
Congress General Secretary Rahul, while addressing a gathering at the inauguration of a bank branch in his constituency in Amethi, said the situation has not changed much since the days his father Rajiv Gandhi had described the lacuna in the system.
Crores are being released under various schemes, including NREGA and Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, but its not reaching the people – it is happening so not only in UP but all over the country,he said.
However, Aadhaar scheme, which will give identity to all citizens, will help in preventing the pilferage of the funds meant for the poor,he said. Rahul said the bank account of all individuals will be linked with their UID number.
