UDF to support Congress in western UP

The United Democratic Front (UDF),a Muslim outfit having an influence in western UP,on Thursday decided to support the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls.

Yusuf Quereshi,the UDF president,said the party will support Congress candidates in western UP constituencies where the party has its base.

Speaking to mediapersons,Quereshi said that earlier,though the party wanted to contest 20 seats,later it decided against it to prevent the division of Muslim votes in favour of secular parties.

We have decided to support the Congress as it was the only secular party to be concerned with the well-being of the Muslims, he added. The UDF leaders will also campaign with the Congress members,Quereshi said.
