Two cops booked for abeting suicide

A police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar Tripathi and constable Vishwanth Mishra were suspended on Wednesday for illegally detaining 22-year-old youth Sameer,who later allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Lucknow’s Indra Nagar area on Tuesday night. An FIR against both police officials has been lodged at the Indra Nagar police station. Sameer was detained at the Takroi police outpost after two girls allegedly complained that he passed lewd remarks and harassed them. Sub-inspector Tripathi was in-charge of the Takroi police outpost under Indra Nagar police circle. Mishra was attached with the outpost. Sameer was found hanging by a ceiling fan in his house.

The police said Sameer’s family has alleged in their complaint that Sameer took the extreme step because of humiliation he faced at the hands of policemen while he was detained at the outpost.

Station officer of Indira Nagar DS Yadav said case has been registered under section 306 of the IPC (abetment of suicide).
