Encephalitis claims two more lives in east UP
Gorakhpur: Two more people succumbed to Japanese Encephalitis here,taking the toll from the viral infection in eastern Uttar Pradesh this year to 516. Health officials said on Saturday that the two died at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital here on Friday. The victims hailed from Gorakhpur and Sant Kabir Nagar.
Nine patients suffering from encephalitis were admitted to the hospital on Friday,Additional Director (Health) U K Srivastava said. As many as 103 patients are presently undergoing treatment at various government hospitals in the region,he said. The vaccination drive to contain Japanese Encephalitis is on in 24 development blocks of Gorakhpur,Deoria,Kushinagar,Mahrajganj,Basti,Siddharthanagar and Sant Kabir Nagar,Srivastava said.
Prisoner dies in hospital
Kanpur: A prisoner lodged in the district jail here died at a hospital on Saturday with his kin alleging that the circumstances that led to his death are mysterious. Naresh Sonkar,booked under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for last 14 months,was admitted to Ursula district hospital on Saturday after he fell ill,police said,adding that he died at the hospital. However,his relatives alleged that Sonkar has died under mysterious circumstances and are demanding a probe into it,they added.
