Tech university plans anti-ragging panels

The Gautam Buddh Technical University has directed all affiliated engineering and management colleges to form anti-ragging committees on campuses.

The Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) has directed all affiliated engineering and management colleges to form anti-ragging committees on campuses.

The committees should have members from teachers,non-teaching staff and senior students.

The decision came after a discussion with the heads of affiliated technical institutions of Lucknow division on Thursday. The meeting aimed to counsel heads of technical institutions who are in a panic following actions against some college authorities after incidents of ragging. The heads of over 50 colleges participated in the meeting.

The university authorities also made the college authorities aware about the Supreme Court rulings on anti-ragging and orders of state government on this issue.

“Anti-ragging committees should counsel freshers,” said Vice-Chancellor Prof Kripa Shanker. “Students may call the committee members anytime if they face ragging. The contact details of the members will be posted on the college website. I will personally call these numbers often and check whether these committee are functioning or not.”
