Tamil Nadu,Cheema Academy reach ‘Babu’ hockey semis

An all-important goal by G Sarvanan Kumar through a penalty-corner in the 32nd minute of the play helped Tamil Nadu in defeating Ludhiana by 1-0 in their quarter-final match of the Balrampur Chini All India KD Singh ‘Babu’ Sub-Junior Invitation Hockey Tournament being held at Dhyanchand astro-turf stadium,Kursi Road,Lucknow.

An all-important goal by G Sarvanan Kumar through a penalty-corner in the 32nd minute of the play helped Tamil Nadu in defeating Ludhiana by 1-0 in their quarter-final match of the Balrampur Chini All India KD Singh ‘Babu’ Sub-Junior Invitation Hockey Tournament being held at Dhyanchand astro-turf stadium,Kursi Road,Lucknow. Cheema Academy defeated Chandigarh by 7-0 in their quarter-final match. The goal-getters from Cheema Academy were Sabhjot Singh (2 goals),Inderjeet Singh (2 goals),Dharminder Singh (1 goal),Kunwar Dilraj Singh (1 goal) and captain Guru Sahib Jit Singh (1 goal).

S Silver Stalin of Tamil Nadu and Guru Sahib Jit Singh of Cheema Academy were awarded Rs 1000 each for emerging ‘Eldeco Player of the Match’ in their respective matches. Monday’s Fixtures: (Semi-finals):- Haryana vs Cheema Academy (at 1.30 pm); Uttar Pradesh vs Tamil Nadu (at 3.00 pm).

Athletic meet
Lucknow University with 136 points bagged the overall championship in the two-day 55th Lucknow University and Inter College Annual Athletic Meet which came to a close on Sunday. The cross-country race event was won by Narendra Kumar of Lucknow University.

Lucknow Division win
Lucknow Division defeated Firozpur Division by eight wickets in the opening encounter of the Inter Division Cricket Tournament of Northern Railway at NR Stadium,Lucknow on Sunday. The tournament was inaugurated by DRM JS Sodhi.

Syed’s hat-trick
Olympian Syed Ali blasted four goals which included a hat-trick as his team Veterans XI defeated Girls’ Hostel XI by 8-3 in an exhibition hockey match organised at Sports College,Lucknow on Sunday. Rashid Aziz (2 goals),Akram Ali (1 goal) and M Sayeed (1 goal) were the other goal-scorers on behalf Veterans XI. Pratima (2 goals) and N Bano (1) sounded the boards on behalf of Girls’ Hostel XI.
