UP sub-inspector held for ‘rape’ of dowry harassment complainant

According to the police, the woman’s ordeal began when Mukesh Kumar who was assigned to investigate her case would allegedly contact her regularly, both through calls and personal meetings to “develop friendship”. Based on her complaint, Auraiya Superintendent of Police Charu Nigam on Thursday suspended Kumar following a preliminary inquiry and initiated a departmental inquiry against him.

“Mukesh Kumar was booked on charges of rape. The medical examination of the victim is going on,” said Charu Nigam. She added that the victim’s statement before the magistrate would be recorded.
