A strayed tiger killed an elderly woman in Puranpur forest range of Pilibhit division on Tuesday.
The woman was identified as Phoolmati (60),a resident of Gajraula village. According to forest officials,the woman had gone into the fields near the village to attend natures call on Tuesday morning but did not return. When the villagers searched for her,they found her sari in a cane field. They informed forest officials about it in the evening.
Forest Ranger Jagannath Prasad said when they reached near the cane field,the tiger was sitting there. Forest officials fired in the air to scare away the tiger and after sometime it left,he said. Prasad said the upper part had been eaten by the tiger when they recovered Phoolmatis body. The incident took place about 2 km away from the Haripur range forests. Prasad said the forest officials were trying to find out where the tiger had strayed from.
