SSB takes villagers help to check intrusion

In a bid to check anti-India propaganda and illegal activities in the border areas,the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has started taking help of the locals in the villages of seven districts of the state on Nepal border.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG),Lucknow Frontier Headquarters,Avinash Chandra,said,Since anti-India propaganda has created problem in the border areas,the SSB has increased the number of patrolling teams covering 15 km-stretch on the borders. The SSB teams are joined by the local sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) and Deputy SPs before they visit villages in their jurisdiction.

The villagers are requested to help the SSB jawans in initiating action against the people involved in illegal activities.

The DIG said the SSB is already in the process of shifting its outposts closer to Nepal border in the dense forest areas of seven districts of UP. The decision to shift the outposts was taken after a group of Nepal-based Maoists had intruded into the Indian territory and damaged three border pillars in Shravasti last year. The Maoists had also raised their flags atop the trees in the Indian territory.

In a letter sent to UP Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta on August 25,2009,the SSB DIG had requested the state government to provide help in smooth movement of the force in the forest areas. Following which,the SSB was allowed to set up its outposts in the forests on Nepal borders.

The forests have been the safest route for intrusion by criminals into the Indian territory and poaching of animals. With the setting up of the outposts in forests will check the illegal intrusion and poaching activities across the border,said sources.
