Sportspersons to get financial help

Good news for sportspersons requiring financial assistance! The Central Government has decided to give a one-time financial assistance of Rs 5 lakhs to sportspersons who have participated in national and international meets at least twice and are facing a financial crunch.

Good news for sportspersons requiring financial assistance! The Central Government has decided to give a one-time financial assistance of Rs 5 lakhs to sportspersons who have participated in national and international meets at least twice and are facing a financial crunch.

Secretary Sports (UP) Lalit Varma informed,“ We had sent a recommendation to the Centre about six months back that since UP is a poor state,sportspersons here require financial assistance. Now that the Centre has formulated such a scheme,we will be looking after its implementation.” “It is a merit-cum-means scheme. We are not sure whether this scheme is for some other states as well. We want to publicise the scheme through media so that the deserving sportspersons who fulfil the required criteria benefit from the scheme,” Varma said.

“The aid will be provided to sportspersons for treatment,training for competitions and for medical purpose for injury caused during participation in tournaments. Talented but needy sportspersons will be given financial help of about Rs 50,000 or kits etc besides coaches,referees and umpires will be given Rs 50,000 in order to promote sports in the state. After the implementation of Rashtriya Khiladi Kalyan Nidhi Yojna,no longer the players need to bother about the financial problems and they will be in a position to bring medals at the national and international level,” he further added. He said application forms meant for applying under this scheme will be made available in the district sports office and all Regional Sports Officers/ district sports officers will ensure that the scheme is well advertised so that meritorious players,their families,upcoming players and coaches can benefit.

Regarding the eligibility criteria,a help of Rs 5 lakh will be provided to those meritorious players who or whose family have no source of income or the income from all source is below Rs 2 lakh per year. As medical help,meritorious players facing fiscal crunch will be given an aid up to Rs 2 lakh while those getting seriously injured during events will be given an assistance of Rs 5 lakh. For other type of injuries,an assistance between Rs 10,000 to Rs 2 lakhs will be provided. A meritorious player’s family living in financial crunch will be given Rs 2 lakh as financial help. Besides,the above the Rashtriya Khiladi Kalyan Nidhi committee,can take decisions to provide financial help based on facts and circumstances as per its discretion,states a press note from Information department.
