South Zone became champions of both football and cricket events in the 42nd CRSB All India Sports Meet 2009-10. In the football final played at Chowk Stadium,Customs Chennai beat Income Tax,Kolkata 2-1 in extra time to bag the top honours. Arunava Sarkar of Kolkata broke the ice in 13th minute. However,Ramesh of Chennai struck the equaliser in the 69th minute. With the scores tied at 1-1 at the end of the regular time period,extra time was given in which Karthick of Chennai,Customs scored the winning goal.
The cricket final was played at KD Singh Babu Stadium between Central Excise,Kolkata and Central Excise,Karnataka. Batting first,Kolkata scored 111 losing eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Hamza (23),Amit Sharma (21),D Mazumdar (20) and TK Ghosh (20) were the main run-getters for the team. On behalf of Karnataka,B Naveen and D Xavier took two wickets each while Sachin K and Ashok Joshi claimed apiece each.
Karnataka achieved the set target at the cost of one wicket in 9.5 overs. Sachin K (52) and AN Sandeep (35 not out) batted responsibly for the team. Sachin K of Central Excise,Karnataka was adjudged Man-of-the-match.
