Forward Ashok Thapa blasted an all-important goal in the 35th of the play as his team Army Public School,Nehru Road registered a 1-0 victory against Unity College,Chowk in their pre-quarterfinal match of the 9th Avinash Chandra Chaturvedi Memorial Inter College Football Tournament at Chowk Stadium,Lucknow on Friday. The second pre-quarterfinal was played between CMS Gomti Nagar and St. Fidelis College,Vikas Nagar in which the former emerged winners by 2-0. The first-half was a keenly contested affair with both the sides making some good moves. However,no goals could be scored. The second-half was dominated by CMS. Capitalising on a well-timed pass,Anirudh scored a goal in the 40th minute to break the stalemate. Ten minutes later,Prateek scored a goal to make the score 2-0 which was maintained till the final moments of the play.

Durgesh honoured
The Regional Sports Office,Lucknow on Friday honoured promising athlete Durgesh Kumar Pal for winning a silver medal in the 400m hurdles event in the Youth Olympic Games held at Singapore last month.
Arun in National kickboxing team
Arun Nagar of UP has been selected in the Indian kickboxing team for the Junior/ Cadet World Kickboxing Championships 2010. The championship will be held at Belgrade from September 19 to 26. Prashant Pandey,general secretary Amateur Kickboxing Association,Uttar Pradesh informs that Arun had first excelled in the National Kickboxing Championships held under the auspices of Indian Association of Kickboxing Organisations in 2008. Thereafter,he has been winning medals in the national meets organised at Andhra Pradesh,Uttaranchal and West Bengal. Arun is the first player from UP to have been selected in the Indian kickboxing team, Pandey further adds.
