SO booted out for not filing kidnap FIR

Allahabad: 15 more cops to face action for dereliction of duty

The Station Officer (SO) of Cantonment police station in Allahabad was shifted to the district lines late on Monday night for allegedly not registering a case of kidnapping of a minor girl.

After newspapers on Monday reported that the police were not registering a case about the alleged kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl by a 34-year-old man in Rajapur locality under Cantonment police station area here,Senior Superintendent of Police Mohit Agarwal spoke to the SO,Ranjit Verma,and inquired about the matter.

“After it came to light that Ranjit Verma had turned away the complainant,he told senior officials that the father of the girl did not want to get a complaint registered,” said a police spokesperson.

“The SSP then got the matter investigated by the Circle Officer (Civil Lines),which revealed that the complainant wanted to lodge the complaint. Subsequently,the SO was shifted to the lines,” added the spokesperson.

A case of kidnapping was registered last night.

Meanwhile,the SSP also suspended at least 15 police personnel who were not found at their respective spots during patrolling in Civil Lines,Cantonment and Colonelganj police station areas. Agarwal has also recommended administrative actions against at least 16 others for improper conduct.
