‘SIMI operative’ arrested from Mumbai

The UP ATS in a joint operation with the Mumbai Police arrested an alleged SIMI operative from Mumbai in connection with 2000 bomb blast that took place in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Mohammad Asad alias Shahid alias Arshad was arrested from Nala Supara area in Mumbai. Five persons including two policemen were injured when a bomb kept in a pressure cooker exploded at Arya Nagar locality under Swarup Nagar police circle in Kanpur on August 14,2000. Mohammad Asad,a native of Kanpur,was on run since then. The police said,the blast was handywork of Hizbul Mujahideen group.
