Schoolchildren injured as bus overturns

As many as 13 children,all wards of Lucknow jail employees,were injured when the school bus in which they were returning home turned turtle in Mohanlalganj area on Friday afternoon.

According to the police,the incident occurred when the bus driver,in an attempt to avoid running over a cyclist,steered the bus off the road.

The cyclist,Vinod Kumar (14),resident of Mohanlalganj,was also injured in the incident. Vinod and the 9 children were shifted to the Trauma Centre,while others were discharged after first aid at the local community health centre.

The bus driver,Guddu,has been absconding. Except Vinod,the condition of others is said to be stable, said S K Tiwari,Circle Officer of Mohanlalganj.

He said two of the children have suffered a fracture.

We have informed the bus owner about the incident and are trying to trace the driver, said Devi Dayal Singh,in-charge of Mohanlalganj police station.
