Scheduled between Dussehra and Bakr-Eid,Modi rally date to change

Apprehending that a wary UP government may deny permission for Narendra Modi’s October 15 rally at Kanpur citing law and order issues during the festive season,BJP is likely to re-schedule its prime ministerial candidate’s first major outing in state from to October 19 or 20.

Apprehending that a wary UP government may deny permission for Narendra Modi’s October 15 rally at Kanpur citing law and order issues during the festive season,BJP is likely to re-schedule its prime ministerial candidate’s first major outing in state from to October 19 or 20.

The party discussed the issue at a meeting in Delhi Tuesday that was called to review the preparations of Modi’s first three rallies to be held in Kanpur,Jhansi and Bahraich. Party national president Rajnath Singh will also address these rallies.

The meeting, chaired by Amit Shah, the party general secretary in charge of UP and a close aide of Modi, decided to review the date of Kanpur rally after it received reports from the local unit that the district administration was concerned that it was scheduled in between Dussehra and Bakr-Eid. Dussehra is on October 14 and Bakr-Eid on 16.

“The party is making arrangements for a gathering of more than two lakh people in the Kanpur rally and the administration may deny permission for the October 15 programme as it is scheduled a day before the Bakr-Eid,” said a party leader.

Party state president Laxmikant Bajpai confirmed as much saying,“The date of Kanpur rally could be changed but it will not be after October 20.”

Bajpai, however, said that there will be no change in schedule of other rallies at Jhansi and Bahraich.

Sources said that Shah directed the state unit to ensure the participation of booth level committees in the rally preparations. Formation of booth level committees at all the polling booths was the first task that Shah had taken up in UP as the general secretary in charge of the state. Shah has also directed the state unit to ensure the presence of all the communities in these rallies, sources said.

The party had also called the organisers of ex-servicemen rally held at Rewari in Haryana earlier this month to today’s meeting to give tips to the UP unit.

“The gathering in Rewari rally was much more than the expectation and the party unit there managed it well. They gave tips on managing such huge crowd,” said Rameshwar Chaurasiya, party national secretary.

Chaurasiya said that crowd is expected to be large because both Modi and Rajnath Singh will address these rallies. “While Modi is our PM candidate,UP is the home state of Rajnath Singh,” he said.
