Sachan death: HC wants probe records

The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Thursday asked the state police to produce the relevant records of investigation in the death of Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Lucknow Dr YS Sachan. It has also summoned for the status report of the judicial inquiry into Dr Sachan’s death.

The court directive came while the bench comprising Justice Pradeep Kant and Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi was hearing a PIL filed by a local journalist Sachchidanand,seeking a CBI inquiry into the death of Dr Sachan,who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in jail on June 22. Dr Sachan was in judicial custody over financial anomalies which came to light following the investigation in murder of of Lucknow CMO Dr BP Singh in April this year.

“The petitioner’s contention,” said the court,“is that it is not a case of suicide but that of murder.”
