Robbers caught red-handed during Mahanagar heist

Police arrested two persons who attempted a robbery at the house of a businessman in Lucknow’s Mahanagar area on Monday.

Police arrested two persons who attempted a robbery at the house of a businessman in Lucknow’s Mahanagar area on Monday. The miscreants had taken two members of the household on gunpoint.

The domestic help,Shanti Devi,who was at home,managed to escape through the backdoor. She informed the neighbours who alerted the police.

The culprits were caught red-handed. They were identified as Sabbu and Aslam—both residents of Hardoi. The police recovered two country-made pistols from their possession.

“When we reached the spot,Shanti Devi told us that when she was busy in the kitchen,two persons entered the house and managed to hold Mamta Gupta and her son Nitish on gunpoint,” said a police officer.

“The house was locked from inside and we broke open the door,” said Virender Kumar,Circle Officer,Mahanagar. The two men had opened fire on the police party,but no one was hurt. The men were arrested and gold ornaments were recovered from their possession,the officer said.

While the miscreants were busy rifling the almirahs,their captives,Mamta Gupta and her son Nitish,also managed to escape through the backdoor,the police said.

The Gupta home is 200 meters from the Mahanagar police station. Mamta’s husband Rajesh Gupta is a property-dealer. He was not present when the incident took place.

Rape accused held in Ghaziabad

GHAZIABAD: Days after a 17-year-old girl was raped in Ghaziabad,the police arrested the accused,Narendra Singh. The panchayat of Saulana village had allegedly asked the victim to not register a case with the police and instead decided to punish Singh by hitting him with a shoe five times. Three persons have already been arrested in this regard.

NOIDA: The Noida police have arrested four persons who confessed to committing 9 robberies in Delhi and Noida. The accused are residents of Sector-8 slum area.
