Riots: Govt did not act on time, says CPIM

CPIM Sunday blamed the Akhilesh Yadav-government in Uttar Pradesh for not acting on time to enforce law and order in Muzaffarnagar during the communal clashes, which led to “terrible loss” of life and property

CPIM Sunday blamed the Akhilesh Yadav-government in Uttar Pradesh for not acting on time to enforce law and order in Muzaffarnagar during the communal clashes, which led to “terrible loss” of life and property.

“The state government and administration didn’t act on time, leading to terrible loss of life and property. It is incomprehensible that even after three deaths in one day (August 27),no decisive action was taken,” CPIM MP S K Saidul Haque said after visiting Muzaffarnagar.

Responding to a question on whether there was involvement of political parties in the clashes,Haque said,“What was projected as a Khap mahapanchayat, was actually attended by people not only from neighbouring districts, but also from as far as Uttarakhand and Haryana. All voices of moderation were immediately silenced.”

Central committee member Subhashini Ali,who was also part of the delegation that visited the riot-hit district said,“We met victims and people living in the camps of Shahpur and Tanwali. Despite the fact that on each day since August 27 until September 7,there were incidents of clashes, stoning, provocative speeches and mobilisations, nothing was done to intervene strongly.”

Demanding immediate arrest of all those charged with inciting violence in Muzaffarnagar,CPIM said the state government should ensure proper relief measures in the camps and immediate payment of compensation for those killed and injured.
