Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to the home of a CRPF jawan, who was among the 76 personnel killed in a Maoist attack in Dantewada last April. On Wednesday,he spent an hour with the family of Vijay Yadav in Manikpura village and assured them of full support from the Central government.
Rahul inquired about the difficulties they were facing and was visibly upset when Yadavs widow,Savitri Devi, told him that they are yet to receive the full compensation announced by the government. Gandhi, who represents Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, assured them that he will personally look into the matter.
Savitri also told him that instead of her,the CRPF should offer the job to her brother-in-law as she was not keen on joining. When he asked the slain jawans parents if they would allow their second son to join the Army, they promptly replied in the affirmative.
Later,he visited Pathkauli village and met the family of Congress worker Rajjan Shukla, who was shot dead on May 4 allegedly by local BSP leaders.
Rahul assured the family that an investigation will be conducted and the guilty will be punished.
The police of Sultanpur district had earlier given a clean chit to local BSP legislator Chandra Prakash, who was named by Shuklas father as an accused in the murder case.
