An assistant commandant of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and four constables were suspended and a criminal case registered against them today for allegedly assaulting a Sub-Divisional Magistrate in the Sikandara police station area of Agra on Friday.
The SDM,Anil Kumar allegedly earned the wrath of the RAF personnel when he refused to give his consent for a cane-charge on a group of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) workers led by party MP,Jayant Chaudhary. The MP and the party members were being prevented from entering the city on Friday.
According to Agra DIG,Asim Kumar Arun a report has been sent to the RAF commandant about assistant commandant Satish Kumar and four constables,following which the commandant suspended five of his personnel on the basis of the police report on Saturday.
The SDM alleged that the RAF personnel dragged him out of the crowd and took him to the side of a road and forced him to issue an order that allowed them to cane-charge the mob. As the SDM refused,the RAF personnel assaulted him,the DIG said.
A criminal case under various IPC sections including charges of rioting,causing hurt to government servant while preventing him from discharging his duty and also under 7-Criminal Law Amendment Act has been registered at the Sikandara police station against five of the named RAF men and four others,the DIG added.
