Serial to highlight misuse of anti-dowry laws
Having cried themselves hoarse against atrocities on women,TV producers are turning viewer attention to a voice lesser heard of men victimised by misuse of law by in-laws.
This is a story about a family and how it comes to terms with a truant daughter-in-law and her family taking undue advantage of law, said Nikhil Chadha, who plays the groom in ‘Apno ke Liye Geeta ka Dharmayudh that goes on air on Zee TV from December 6. He was in Lucknow on Thursday.
Actually, the pivotal role is of the groom’s sister who steps in to shield her family in crisis, says Chadha, who hasn’t shot for the series yet.
But this is not his first marriage on TV. I played a married man in Swarg on Colors. It was followed by Miley Jab Hum Tum on StarOne in which I was the college guy,Rohan, says the actor. I was in the cabin crew of an airline and quit the job to do theatre in Mumbai. After some plays based on Premchand’s stories,I turned to modeling appearing as the face of Gillette razors and print ads for HDFC,ICICI banks,Coca-Cola and some others. I wanted to be a model, but one thing led to another and now I am booked 25 days a month for this serial. Urvashi Dholakia comes back with the series, playing the groom’s mother.
