Probe into damaged PDS grain supply

They will not only track the supply of damaged foodgrains,but will also recover it from the PDS shops and submit a report to the department within a month.

For past one week,the department has been receiving several complaints about damaged foodgrains supplied to the PDS shops in districts like Mahoba,Hamirpur,Baghpat,Etah,Shahjehanpur,Basti and Gonda. It was reported that foodgrains for Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Antodaya families were rotten and packed in damp sacks. Last week,the state government had issued instructions that wet foodgrains should not be picked from the godowns of Food Corporation of India (FCI). But despite this,damaged foodgrains made its way to the PDS shops.

“There were several reports of wheat and foodgrains in FCI godowns getting soaked in the recent rains. Since a part of it also got damaged,we decided to ensure that these damaged grains are not picked for any government supply,” said Rajeev Aggarwal,Commissioner,Food and Civil Supplies. “In some blocks,this (damaged) food stock has even been distributed,” he added.

The reports,which will be filed by the inspection teams,will contain details like batch number of the sacks of damaged grains,date on which the stock was picked from the FCI godowns,date of delivery at the PDS shop,vehicle number through which the stock was transported and others.
