Director General of Medical Education Dr Saudan Singh on Thursday visited Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital and recorded statements of various doctors in connection with the incident of two destitute patients being taken away from the hospital and dumped at a desolate place two days ago.
He said the guilty would not be let-off and,if need be,a high level inquiry would be ordered.
Talking to reporters after the visit,Dr Singh said: I would also visit the jail where three persons including two ward boys are lodged in connection with the case. A detailed inquiry would be carried out and the report would be submitted to the administration for further action,he said.
Dr Singh,who reached here from Lucknow this morning,held a meeting with senior hospital officials and recorded statements of doctors who were on duty in the wards concerned when the incident happened.
Dr S P Singh,Principal of Motilal Nehru Medical College,to which SRN Hospital is attached,has been asked to furnish an explanation.
The acting district magistrate has already ordered an inquiry by the ADM (city) and the chief medical officer. The report is to be submitted within three days.
Meanwhile,services at SRNH continued to remain badly affected with junior doctors also going on strike late on Wednesday night. While the emergency services remained operational,the Out-Patient Department was completely locked for the day.
The ward boys are already on strike since Wednesday. The junior doctors want the criminal case registered against one of the junior doctors,Sonu Sharma,in connection with the incident be withdrawn. The ward boys have been on strike asking why only their colleagues were arrested in the case.
Sonu Sharma,who had been asked by the hospital administration to give an explanation,did not appear on Thursday too. He had denied his role when the incident came to light on Tuesday.
The police said they were still looking for the doctor. So far,we have not been able to trace him. Efforts are on, said Station Officer Jhunsi,Mrityunjay Mishra. A case has been registered at Jhunsi police station against four accused,including Sonu Sharma.
On Tuesday,two ward boys,Dharmendra Patel and Raju Yadav,along with a private ambulance driver Arvind Nirmal,had taken away two destitute patients out of SRN hospital and dumped them in Jhunsi area.
They were arrested when a policeman spotted them. The ward boys told the police they did so at the instance of Sharma. The patients had been admitted to medicine ICU and were without any attendants.
