The Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan police have tightened the noose around Bedi Ram,the kingpin of several paper leaks of railway recruitment exams.

The man has been on the run since his name cropped up in the leakage of papers for recruitment of assistant station masters exam in February.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force had arrested 109 people,94 of them candidates and the rest Bedi Ram’s agents. Among the aspirants,84 belonged to Bihar.

The arrests came after raids in hotels in Jaipur and Bhopal on the eve of the examination on February 14. But even though his name was revealed by the arrested accused, raids at Bedi Ram’s Gomti Nagar home and other hideouts failed to trace him.

Sources in the STF — which is assisting the Rajasthan and MP police in the investigation — said they now have a fair idea of the whereabouts of the ganglord and he would be caught within a week.

The SP of the Rajasthan Special Operations Group,Hawa Singh Ghumeriya, said: “We are on the job to nail Bedi Ram,as vital evidence about his running the racket has been collected.”

The Superintendent of Police,Bhopal,Jaideep Prasad, said: “We have been busy with the Lok Sabha polls, but collecting clues against Bedi Ram is on and he is likely to be traced soon.”

The STF sources revealed that the investigating agencies had decided to conduct narco analysis on the accused, who is yet to be named in the paper leak case of UCO Bank clerk grade exams held on December 7,2008.

Those arrested in the case had named Bedi Ram for his involvement, but in absence of evidence, the police had not laid their hands on him. The sources said a narco test will help retrieve the names of those who used to provide papers to Bedi Ram before the exams.

Bedi Ram,who was dismissed from the job of Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) with the North-Eastern Railways after the Rajasthan and MP paper leakage cases, had been arrested on December 15,2008. The STF had unearthed the paper leakage of assistant loco pilot examination conducted by Railway Recruitment Board,Allahabad.

The STF sources said the narco test will also help nail Bedi Ram for his involvement in the leakage of the papers of earlier RRB examinations in Ajmer,Gorakhpur,Patna,Ranchi,Bhubane-swar,Kolkata and Secunderabad.
