Opposition slams Maya; demands security for DIG

Opposition parties have accused the Mayawati govt of harassing IPS officer DD Misra who has alleged corruption in purchase of equipment in Fire Department.

The Opposition parties have accused the Mayawati government of harassing IPS officer DD Misra who has alleged corruption in purchase of equipment in Fire Department. The Opposition has also demanded security for Misra and his family fearing life threat for them.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and UP Congress Committee (UPCC) both on Saturday demanded that a sitting judge of Allahabad High Court should probe into the corruption charges alleged by Misra. The BJP also demanded to shift Misra to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS),New Delhi.

The state government on Saturday claimed that Misra was suffering from ‘Bipolar Effective Disorder’.

“Two CMOs and a deputy CMO were also in similar pressure due to departmental corruption and they were killed a few months back. The BJP fears similar threat to DIG Misra,” said BJP national vice-president Kalraj Mishra while talking to media persons.

“If Misra was mentally unstable,why government failed to take note of his health earlier,” he added.

SP leader Shivpal Yadav,who is also leader of the Opposition in the Assembly,claimed Misra was being harassed following the orders of Chief Minister and Principal Secretary (Home). Yadav said the government was forcing doctors to declare Misra mentally unstable.

Yadav demanded CBI inquiry into Misra’s allegations. He also demanded CBI probe into the mysterious death of IAS officer Harminder Raj Singh. Yadav said Harminder was also in pressure following corruption in allotment of land in Noida.

In a press statement,UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said Misra feared life threat like Dr YS Sachan who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Lucknow jail. UPCC said the state government would be responsible if any untoward incident happened to the DIG.

Meanwhile,the ruling BSP in a release has termed the Opposition parties’ charges as not only “baseless” and “bizarre”,but also against the democratic traditions. The release further said the party criticises the Opposition attempt to give political colours to to the matter.

Govt transfers Fire department ADG

Lucknow: Following the allegations of rampant corruption in Fire Service Department made by DIG Devendra Dutt Misra,the government on Saturday night transferred the department’s Additional DG (ADG) Harish Chandra Singh. The order came after the government handed over a probe into Misra’s charges to Anti-Corruption DG Atul Saturday noon. While Singh has been shifted to Police Training Headquarters,an officer is yet to be posted in his place. DIG Misra had accused ADG Singh of pressurising him to make favourable noting on certain files related to the purchase of fire fighting equipment. The ADG had,however,refuted the charges made against him on Friday.
