The BSP is all set to hold a protest demonstration against the failures of UPA-II on Saturday when the latter completes a year at the Centre. The theme of the protest is Congress ka haath garibo ke saath nahi balki punjipati ke saath (Congress hand not with poor but with capitalists).
A senior BSP leader said the party will hold demonstrations across all district headquarters to highlight the failures of the UPA,with particular emphasis on food inflation and spurt in prices of petroleum products.
Despite the repeated requests of UP Chief Minister Mayawati, the Centre has not sanctioned the special economic package of Rs 80,000 crore for the backward region of Bundelkhand and areas under eastern UP,said a BSP leader. The Centre,he said, has also denied financial assistance to various Centrally sponsored schemes. The BSP,which supported the UPA during the April 27 cut motion in Lok Sabha, will hold demonstrations in all Assembly constituencies in the state in a phased manner.
The first phase of protest will be held on May 22 at the district headquarters, following which a protest will be held in each of the 402 Assembly constituencies every Wednesday.
BSP chief Mayawati, meanwhile,is likely to skip the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi on May 22 to mark UPA-IIs first anniversary.
A senior official with the chief ministers secretariat said: So far,the chief minister has made no programme to attend the dinner at Delhi.
