From being a small chapter in the science book, computer applications is set to become a full-fledged subject in the state government school curriculum. While the Education department is busy chalking out the syllabus,a lot remains to be done towards electrification of schools and making more computers available for the students.
Our department along with the District Institute of Education and Training,Lucknow and the State Council Educational Research and Training has chalked out the complete syllabus for the students of Class VI,VII and VII. But the syllabus is under consideration and is awaiting approval from the Basic Education Directorate, said DC Kanaujia,Director,Basic Education Department. Till date,a mere chapter of the subject was included in the science books comprising information related to topics like hardware and software. Now,the syllabus will comprise detailed introduction about the subject including knowledge related to its history, fundamentals of hardware, software,Windows operating system, storage capacity, multimedia and Internet.
The department officials feel that the introduction of the subject will take time as there are several areas where basic work needs to be done. Only 22 computers were installed in schools last year and around the same number this year. Electrification too has taken place in 796 primary and 229 upper primary schools in Lucknow. But with time everything will fall in place, said Rakesh Shrivastava,Basic Shiksha Adhikari.
