The Noida Authority has proposed amendments in the policy related to regularising the populated or abaadi land, following demands from farmers in the region.
The farmers had two main demands: the abaadi land should be left as it is,and every male member of a family, whose land has been acquired between 1976 and 1997,should be given the benefit of residential land reservation.
At present, only one male heir is given the benefit.
The Authority has accepted the demands and proposed amendment in its regularisation of Abaadi Land Act. The proposal has been sent to the Cabinet for approval.
If the proposal is accepted it will solve a major problem regarding abaadi (land),over which the farmers are agitating, said an official of the Authority.
The gridlock between the Authority and farmers over abaadi land finds its basis in Clause 9 of Industrial Act.
Under the clause, when the Authority notifies that land is approved for acquisition,no one is authorised to construct anything on it,even if we do not acquire the land, said the official.
The farmers in the area, however, continued the expand their houses even after land was notified. The Authority later treated all such construction as encroachment and refused compensation, leading to protests.
